Anyone can Host a Food Drive!

When one thinks of “food drive,” we generally imagine a complicated, well-organized event–like the wonderful food drives conducted twice a year by the Postal Carriers. Anyone, however, can do a food drive and it is such a wonderful way to collect nutritious food to share with our hungry neighbors!

While we receive food from FOOD for Lane County each week, many of our basic pantry staples come from the donations of individuals, businesses, churches, and organizations right here in Junction City. At JCLA, we have little control over the canned goods we receive and we are always in need of donations of the most popular and useful food items:

  • peanut butter
  • canned tuna and salmon
  • canned meals like ravioli, pasta dishes, chili, and stew
  • boxed meals like macaroni and cheese
  • canned fruit (pineapple, peaches, pears, fruit cocktail)
  • canned/jarred baby food

We have large barrels available for use at events, businesses, schools, and churches and we are happy to coordinate with you barrel delivery or for picking up the donations as needed.

Food drives can be a wonderful addition to an existing event or meeting. Asking folks to bring donations to a dance or social event is one easy way to gather food for our local pantry. We have also had some very successful drives where service groups set up tables outside local stores (with permission, of course) and asked folks if they would be willing to purchase an extra jar of peanut butter or some boxed meals to donate to the food pantry.

Feel free to give us a call or send an email with your ideas, questions or suggestions. We will do whatever possible to help make your food drive a fun success!
